Check your dealer quote

Use the manufacturer price as a reference, then compare two itemised quotes for the same trim, colour and model year. We do not yet have transaction data to label a negotiated price “fair”.

Vehicle & statutory charges
Separate the ex-showroom price, registration, road tax and applicable statutory charges. Ask which location and invoice date apply.
Insurance & optional items
Compare equivalent insurance cover. Ask for accessories, service packs and extended warranties as separate optional lines.
Discounts & finance
Get the discount and its conditions in writing. Compare the total loan repayment, fees and down payment, not just the monthly instalment.
For an electric SUV
Check whether the price includes the battery, charger and installation. A battery subscription or separate battery loan is an additional ownership cost.

Editorial overview

If your driving is mostly urban and mostly stop-start, the strong hybrid is the most rational midsize SUV on sale — 25+ km/l in real traffic is not a claim, it is arithmetic. Everywhere else it is beaten: the boot is small, the CVT drones, and the 1.5 mild hybrid is ordinary.

Editorial buying guidance, not a road-test report. Confirm trim-specific equipment before deciding.

Pros and cons

Reasons to consider it

  • The strong hybrid genuinely returns 22–26 km/l in city traffic, which is the cheapest running cost of any petrol SUV on sale.
  • 210 mm of ground clearance, the most in the segment.
  • Maruti service network and running costs — the reason resale holds.
  • AllGrip AWD is available, which most rivals do not offer at all.

Things to weigh up

  • The strong hybrid boot drops to 265 litres because the battery sits under the floor. The CNG version is 195 litres, which is a genuine compromise.
  • The e-CVT drones under hard acceleration and there is no way to make it not.
  • The 1.5 mild-hybrid petrol is underpowered for the kerb weight — 101 bhp moving 1,265 kg feels it on a gradient.
  • No diesel option at all, and no turbo-petrol either.

Worth knowing before you sign

  • The BEE star rating is normalised within weight class, so a 5-star heavy SUV is not more efficient in absolute terms than a 3-star hatchback. Compare km/l, not stars.

Alternatives to consider

Every alternative here comes with the specific condition under which it is the better buy. A list of rivals without that is a list of links.
